93Queen

An inspiring and fascinating documentary set in the (usually) closed to outsiders Hasidic (i.e. ultra-orthodox Jewish) community of Borough Park, Brooklyn, where, against a male dominated culture, a group of determined women — led by the indomitable lawyer Rachel (“Ruchie”) Freier — created in 2014 an all-female EMS squad. This community was already being served by the largest volunteer EMS organization in the world — known as Hatzolah — but this organization had removed all women from its ranks and was none too pleased to have a women-only organization take on a similar role to its own.  Beyond the impressive storytelling, what is nice about this film is that all of the subjects are presented as much more than stereotypes.  Warning: very uplifting ending.
