There is literal burning in this film, but for the most part this is a very quiet and slow-moving story from Korea (set in Seoul and in nearby rural areas) about a young aspiring author, his run in with an old female classmate who fascinates and attracts him, and the introduction of another of her friends — a rich and very smooth guy who rides around in a fancy car and doesn’t seem to need to work — to make for a very uneasy relationship triangle. The film’s 2.5-hour length felt even longer to me, but some images will stick with you. (Subtitles.)
