The newest of the Coen brothers’ creations, this Western anthology, in six segments, starts strong but quickly lost my interest (and never really gained it back over a running time of over two hours). Too many characters that aren’t that interesting, which is a shame given the very talented actors (including James Franco, Liam Neeson, Tom Waits, Brendan Gleeson). The whole doesn’t seem to measure up to the sum of the parts. Good music, though, and an impressive first segment with Tim Blake Nelson as a singing cowboy having a lot of fun — until the fun comes to an untimely end. (Now on Netflix.)
